empty nest syndrome

Fostering, the best antidote to empty nest syndrome.

Inevitably, for one reason or another, children eventually move on leaving a gap that parents often struggle to fill.

Parents go through a lot while raising their children – tears of happiness and frustration, sleepless nights, worry, stress etc. Such experiences equip them with a valuable set of skills which can be utilised in fostering. Providing a safe and secure home for a child or young person is only part of becoming a foster carer; having the patience, commitment, perseverance and determination to succeed are just as important. Fostering can provide a refreshingly different challenge from traditional parenthood – one that many find extremely rewarding.

For some parents, an empty nest is a welcome relief from the hectic schedule of looking after teenagers. No more loud music and no more youngsters creeping in the front door hours past bedtime. But for some parents it’s not so welcome, they still have that need to care, nurture, love and mentor someone. Fostering could be the solution.

In the UK alone, there is currently a demand for over 8,100 foster families. This means that there are over 8,100 children living in the UK who are waiting for the right home. You can fill the nest and give children and young people a home.
