Son's & Daughter's Month

Banya Celebrates Son’s & Daughter’s Month!

The month of October was a time for so much to celebrate at Banya: Black History Month, National Care Leavers Week and finally Son’s & Daughter’s Month. Son’s and Daughter’s Month is The Fostering Network’s annual campaign to celebrate the vital contribution that the children of foster carers make to foster care.

At Banya we know that the decision to become a foster carer is not be taken lightly because it involves the whole family. But fostering can and does have a positive impact on everyone in the household. So we recognise the vital role sons and daughters of foster carers can play in the success of fostering placements. As a result at Banya, we help, support and celebrate the sons and daughters of foster carers.

As part of Son’s and Daughter’s month, we are celebrating the birth children of our wonderful foster carers. We want to thank all those birth children who have welcomed children and young people into their homes and made them feel like a part of the family.

Natasha and Javanna are mother and daughter and they have been fostering with Banya for a number of years. In celebration of Son’s & Daughters month we would like to share with you a video we filmed with them on how fostering has changed the whole family’s life for the better and the positive impact it has had.

Birth sons and daughters must share their parents, their toys and their friends, as well as sometimes cope with difficult and challenging behaviour. Despite these difficulties, many say that being part of a foster family has had a positive impact on them, and helped them to understand others better.

Our Managing Director Chido Poe has herself experienced being a birth child of a foster carer, as her mother Nyasha (Banya Founder) fostered children. “Fostering has taught me how important it is to help others!” says Chido. “This month we celebrate all the Son’s & Daughters of our Foster Carers and thank them for their hard work, support and love they give within their fostering family.”
