From Monday 11th May to Sunday 24th May 2026, the fostering community across the UK comes together for Foster Care Fortnight. It’s the biggest awareness-raising campaign of the year, and this time around, the theme is “This is Fostering.”
It is a simple name, but it carries a lot of weight. It’s an opportunity for us to share the real stories that make up the fostering community. This year, the campaign focuses on three important areas:
- Shining a light: We’re celebrating the everyday lives of foster carers and the genuinely positive impact they have on children every single day.
- Acknowledging the pressure: We know it’s not always easy. We’re highlighting the very real pressures carers face, including inconsistent support, low allowances, and feeling left out of key decisions regarding the children in their care.
- A call to action: This is our chance to stand together. As carers and the wider community, we’re using this platform to call on the government for meaningful, lasting change.
Get involved in the competition
To mark the fortnight, The Fostering Network is running an art competition. They are looking for any creative entry, like a drawing, a poem, a story, or even a video, that shows what “This is Fostering” means to you. It is open to everyone, with categories for children and adults. You can find all the details on how to take part on their website.
