Steps to fostering
- Your first step is to contact us. Either submit the Expression of Interest form or give us a ring on 020 8678 5330.
- Next, we will arrange a visit to your home from a Banya Social Worker. During the visit, you may expect to be asked a wide range of questions. This gives both sides an opportunity to get to know each other, and you’ll get a better idea of whether fostering is for you.
- Following a successful visit, you will be invited to attend a training course. If you are a couple, it is vital that each partner attends every session.
- You will then be assessed by an experienced social worker. This is a far reaching process involving several checks, during which you are encouraged to reflect on the life history and qualities you might be bringing to a fostering career. We also take up confidential references.
- The assessment is shared with you. You will be invited to attend a meeting of Banya’s Fostering Panel. There, the assessment is considered carefully, and you can be recommended for approval to foster.
- Once approved, our referral team will match you with children/young people to be placed with you.
- You are now an approved foster carer, and each year there will be a follow-up review.
Good luck with this difficult yet rewarding path.
